- HEURISTIC EVALUATION
To improve the usability and effectiveness of NYC Air Tracker, a heuristic evaluation was conducted on existing climate change and air quality platforms. Applications and websites that present environmental data were analyzed using Jakob Nielsen's ten usability heuristics to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
The evaluation found that many climate-related platforms overwhelm users with technical terminology, dense datasets, and complex visualizations. Important information, such as Air Quality Index (AQI), pollution levels, and health recommendations, was often difficult to locate or interpret, creating barriers for users without scientific backgrounds.
